It is characterized by elevated blood sugar levels that develop or are first recognized during pregnancy. GDM not only poses immediate risks to both mother and child during pregnancy but also increases the long-term risk of type 2 diabetes for both.

Prevalence of GDM in India

India, being one of the largest populous countries globally, faces a significant burden of GDM cases.
