Hypovitaminosis D

Hypovitaminosis D, a vitamin D deficiency, can affect men and women throughout their lives. This fat-soluble vitamin affects the mineral metabolism and many other physiological functions. Without adequate vitamin D levels, patients are at risk for dental concerns such as periodontal disease, tooth loss and tooth decay, diabetes mellitus, Autoimmune and cardiovascular disease, Skeletal nerve disease, inflammation. Older adults with hypovitaminosis D are at increased risk of falls and fractures, hypothyroidism, osteoporosis, depression and cognitive dysfunction. ultraviolet B from sun rays are a major source of vitamin D. Fatty fish are also sources of vitamin D as well as mushrooms. Often milk is enriched with Vitamin D and sometimes with bread, dairy products and other juices also enriched with Vitamin D.
