Intestinal Parasites

One of the major types of intestinal parasites is the intestinal worms, also known as parasitic worms. Common types of intestinal worms include flatworms, including tapeworms and flukes, roundworms that cause ascariasis, pinworms and hookworms. In developing countries, parasite infections caused by intestinal helminths and protozoan parasites are among the most prevalent in humans. Protozoan parasites more commonly cause gastrointestinal infections in developed countries compared to helminths. Intestinal parasites in endemic countries cause significant morbidity and mortality. The prevalence of intestinal parasites is the highest among children living in developing nations' poorest communities. The most common causes of intestinal parasites are contaminated water consumption, infected soil, inadequate sanitation and hygiene, and inappropriate hygiene.
