Mood Disorders

            Mood disorders, also known as mood disorders, are a group of conditions in which a person's mood disorder is the main characteristic. These are classified in the Manual for the Diagnosis and Statistics of Mental Disorders (DSM) and in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). Mood disorders are included in the main groups with high spirits such as mania or hypomania; mood depression, the most well-known and most widely studied is severe depression (MDD) is commonly referred to as clinical depression, unipolar depression, or severe depression and the mood alternating between mania and depression known as bipolar disorder which is previously known as manic depression. There are several subtypes of depressive disorders or psychiatric syndromes that are characterized by less severe symptoms such as dysthymic disorders which is similar but milder than MDD and cyclotymic disorders which is similar but lighter than BD. Mood disorders can also be caused by substances or occur in response to an illness.
