Spinal Cord Stimulation
A neural structure stimulator (SCS) device is surgically placed beneath your skin and sends a light current to your neural structure (Fig. 1). alittle wire carries the present from a generator to the nerve fibers of the neural structure. once turned on, the SCS stimulates the nerves within the space wherever your pain is felt. Pain is reduced as a result of the electrical pulses modify and mask the pain signal from reaching your brain. Stimulation doesn't eliminate the supply of pain, it merely interferes with the signal to the brain, then the quantity of pain relief varies for every person. Also, some patients realize the tingling sensation unpleasant. For these reasons an effort stimulation is performed before the device is for good planted. The goal for neural structure stimulation may be a 50-70% reduction in pain. However, even alittle quantity of pain reduction is important if it helps you to perform your daily activities with less pain and reduces the quantity of pain medication you are taking. Stimulation doesn't work for everybody. If unsuccessful, the implant is removed and doesn't harm the neural structure or nerves. Some SCS devices use a low-frequency current to interchange the pain sensation with a light tingling feeling referred to as paraesthesia. alternative SCS devices use high-frequency or burst pulses to mask the pain with no tingling feeling.
